MEMORIAL TABLETS.

AT EASTON PARK AND IHAKARA GARDENS.

When the baths question was under discussion at last night’s Borough Council meeting, the Mayor said that the Council owed a debt of gratitude to Mi* A. S. Easton for the gift of Easton Park to the borough of Foxton. He thought the Council should place a memorial tablet on the gate post at the entrance to the park in memory of the donor.

Cr. Thompson suggested that the baths be called the Easton Park Baths.

Cr. McMurray considered it would be better to name the reserve tire Easton Memorial Park.

The Mayor: We should do something if the Revenue Account will stand it.

The Clerk suggested a brass plate, the cost of which would not be prohibitive. Air Easton, lie said, gave the park as a peace memorial and he thought it would be better to call the place a Peace Alemorial Tablet

It was decided to procure a tablet and have it erected on one of the gate posts. Ci\ Woods considered a tablet should lie erected on the gate post at Ihakara Gardens as a mark of appreciation to the Natives for this gift to the_borough. The Alayor said he had spoken to the Education Department’s architect and it had been arranged to have a tablet erected on the High School building, to the memory of the Natives who had also donated the adjoining section as an educational reserve. He did not think there would be any necessity for two tablets.

Cr. Woods pointed out that one section was given to the Council to be beautified and the other to the Education Department. The Council should show its appreciation of the gift. It was decided to erect a tablet on the gate post at Ihakara Garden also.
