A HAPPY FAMILY.

MAYOR AND CITY FATHERS,

At the conclusion of business at last night's Borough Council meeting, which was the last one before the bi-enninl elections, the Mayor expressed the hope that all tho Councillors would again seek reelection at the forthcoming poll. Ho appreciated their services, and he had had a very pleassant term of office. They had all worked harmoniously together and any shortcomings on his part had been generously overlooked by them. Ho would very much like to see them all again re-elected for a further term. Cr. Walker returned thanks on behalf of the Councillors and expressed the hope that Mr. Perreau would again seek re-election as Mayor. ’ *iS Crs. Cowley, Rand, Parkin, Woods and Thompson also expressed similar sentiments and pledged themselves to do their utmost to have the Mayor again returned to office. Cr. McMurray considered the retiring Council had been the most progressive one that had sat at the Council table. They had had a very strenuous term of office. Personally he would not be again seeking re-election as he would probably be leaving Foxton at an early date. He wished the Mayor and his fellow Councillors every success at the forthcoming elections and if returned, hoped they would show just as progressive a spirit in the future. He had tried to do his best in the interests of the Council and Foxton os a whole. He referred to the great benefit that would accrue if the river cuts went through and said that for 30 years he had tried to help the port of Foxton along in many different ways but he regretted to say that lie had not been very successful. He was satisfied, however, that Foxton had great prospects and possibilities before it equal to any other town in Now Zealand. All that was needed was co-operation and he urged the Councillors to think deeper of the possibilities before Foxton and to boost it.

With the exception of Cr. McMurray, all the other Councillors then filled in nomination forms and will seek re-election at the poll next. week.

Mr. Perreau will also seek reelection as Mayor.
