HIGH SCHOOL GIRL’S DEATH

WARNING IGNORED. Pukekohe, April 4. The inquest concerning the death of Lily Isabella Reid, the fourteen-year-old High School girl, who was killed by a fall from a railway train on March 13, was held to-day. Mr. E. K. Lawrie (the Coroner) returned a verdict of accidental death. The Coroner remarked that he was satisfied that the Railway Department had done its best to warn children of the evil of riding on carriage platforms. Only a few days before the accident the traffic inspector reported to the stationmaster on the conduct of the school children travelling from Pukekohe by the Thames-Auckland express. He felt that parents should warn children of (lie danger of their riding on platforms. The Coroner and the railway representative extended their sympathy with the parents of the deceased.
