Mr. K. O. Hornblow returned today from the north Auckland province where he spent an etijr/vable holiday.

The Mayor (Mr. M. E. Perreau) and Mrs. Perreau returned from a. motoring tour in the Auckland province on Saturday. Mr. Perreau said the roads were, on the whole, in fairly good order and he only experienced one puncture. The tom was both interesting and enjoyable. At last night’s District High school committee, Mr. F. Woods, chairman, in thanking members for their co-operation during the year, stated that he would not seek reelection to the committee this year. Eulogistic references were made to Mr. Wood’s services by members of the committee and be was accorded a vote of appreciation.

The local branch of the Plunket Society tendered a farewell tea to Mrs. Austin-Johnston, a past president, on Saturday afternoon at the Plunket rooms and made her the recipient of a taken of goodwill in the form of a crystal and silver toilet article. The president, Mrs. F. Robinson, made the presentation and conveyed the society’s best wishes for iter health and happiness in her new home in A ellington. In suitably acknowledging the kind wishes and token of esteem, Mrs. Austin-Johnston intimated that she •would continue to remain an lionorary member of the local branch.
