A FATAL SMASH.
AT MOTOR-CYCLE SPORTS. Auckland, March 28. A fatal accident occurred during the motor-cycle races at Takapuna on Saturday. The field had just completed two laps in the Glasgow Handicap when J. A. Davidson, riding a 7-9 h.p. Harley-Davidson, skidded just after passing the stewards’ stand and struck the fence. Once he skidded, his back w T heel locked, and the machine struck the railing with terrific force. The motor-cycle was absolutely wrecked. Davidson lay motionless, and it was at first thought that Jie had been killed instantaneously. His brother, who is a member of St. John’s Ambulance Brigade, and was on duly on the course, ran over to attend to the unfortunate young man. Dr. J. A. AYatson was quickly on the scene, and had Davidson taken away in the ambulance to the hospital. Davidson, who sustained severe bruises to his left thigh and abdomen, and internal injuries, died at the hospital to-day. Davidson, who was 21 years old, was employed at Newmarket Railway AYorkshops.
