THE SHANNON BRIDGE

In conversation with Air G. Hickford, engineer to the Manawatu County Council this morning, we were informed that a tender had been accepted by the Public Works Department for the erection of the Shannon bridge. Mr. Hickford stated that he was unaware of the amount of tender. He stated that before the bridge is erected a service road would have to be constructed on the Shannon side from the main road to the bridge site along the bank of the river. Mr. Hickford suggested that the material could be conveyed by river boat from the local port to the bridge site, which would probably be more economical than road cartage. All-. Hickford stated that h& had no information as to when the work would bo commenced by the Department.
