Mrs. McDonald, of Pahiatua, is paying a visit to Foxton friends. Mr. R. Hornblow is spending a holiday in the North Auckland province. Miss D. S. Ferguson, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Ferguson, of Palmerston North, has been appointed to the educational staff of the Alethodist mission at Tonga. Aliss Ferguson sails from Auckland for the Islands on April 23. Advice has been received in Wellington that the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, who has been in indifferent healthfor some time, has suffered a relapse and is seriously ill at the residence of his daughter, Airs. Allan Evans, of Masterton. It is understood that the Hon. A. D. McLeod (Minister of Lands and Minister of Industries and Commerce), who has been appointed to represent the New Zealand Government at the opening of the new Federal capital at Canberra, will leave for Australia about April 28. The death occurred at Masterton on Thursday of Mrs. Duncan AloAlastcr, one of the pioneer settlers of the Wairarapa. Airs. McMaster was born at Evans Bay, Wellington, 77 years ago, being the daughter of the late Air. and Airs. Donald Drummond. Air. J. W. Murray, secretary to the Shannon Co-operative Dairy Co., lias tendered his resignation with the company, to take over the management of the Wairarapa Trading Co.’s store at Featherston. Air Murray has been a resident of Shannon for -the past 20 years, eleven of-which he lias been secretary of the Dairy Co. During his residence in Shannon he has taken ah active'paid in the interests of the town, having served for two terms as a borough councillor, chairman of the Shannon school eight years, and as secretary of the Presbyterian Church for seven years, also as president of the Bowling Club, besides acting as honorary secretary in the past for different clubs. Air. Murray’s departure from the district is to he regretted, but lie’ and his family will carry with them the best wishes of a large circle of friends. Mr. Murray takes over his new duties on May Ist.
