BETTER ROADS.
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Palmerston Chamber of Commerce the chairman (Mr. M. E. Elliott), urged that the Highway Board should be approached in an endeavour to get the arterial roads leading to Palmerston North improved. The prosperity of the town, he added, depended a great deal on its road communication. Mr. Brown urged tlie establishment of a motor leavy to secure a main highway between Palmerston North and Foxton. He instanced tlie Wiellington-Hutt road which had been laid down on that plan and was an ideal road. What was more two vears’ levy had paid for it and he didn’t think motorists objected to a small levy. Mr. Cation supported Mr. Brown’s suggestion which he thought was a splendid one. Mr. Noedl facetiously remarked that unfortunately Palmerston North did not have its totalisator at Foxton. He thought that the fact that. Wellington had its race meeting at Trenthnm, had been, to a great extent, responsible for the improved Hull Valley road. However, there was the added attraction of a seaside resort at Foxton, and he supported the idea. Lt was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Manawatu County Council which had jurisdiction over the Foxton highway.,.
