CREMATION OF THE DEAD.
LEGISLATION LAST SESSION. A correspondent of a Wellington paper has inquired whether a measure passed last session enabling those who were desirous of having their remains cremated to express that wish, has now the of law. The answer is in the affirmative. The amendment to the Act referred to reads: “Any person by writing under his hand may direct that his body shall after death be disposed r , of by cremation instead of by burial in the earth', and the executors of such person, or other persons having authority to dispose of his remains, may carry such direction into effect in the maimer provided by this Act.” It has been pointed’ out that the clause reads 7 “may carry such direction into effect,” not “shall carry,” that elasticity being no doubt- given as there are so few towns in the Dominion which possess facilities for cremation.
