HAREM BEAUTIES TOO FAT
Constantinople, Alarch 20. Kemal’s edicts abolishing the veil and introducing dancing have dissipated the myth that harem girls are slim, exotic, dazzling beauties. On the contrary, they have outrageously fat features, lost amid bellying cheeks and double-chins owing to inelessant reclining on divans and excessive eating of delicacies. Kemal has ordered the orchestra at official dances to specialise in the Charleston, which the fattest guests refused to dance until forced. When the harem girls learned the benefit of exercise, they began various sports, aiming to reduce their figure to the proportions of fashionable European women.
