CATHOLIC SCHOOL PICNIC.
Good weather was experienced on Tuesday when the ■children of the local Convent held their annual picnic. The place chosen this year for the event was the Waiopehu Scenic Domain, Levin, and it proved to be an ideal picnic spot. The children, spent the first couple of hours wandering over the beautiful piece of bush, a few of the more adventurous ones climbing to the top of the range 'dose by. After a tasty and abundant lunch had been partaken of, provided and served by the parents and visiting ladies, the children gathered in an adjacent paddock, kindly lent for the occasion by Mr Stuart, and indulged in sports. Many and varied races were competed for, comprising flat, po-tato,-sack. and backward races, wliieh were followed by high jumping for the 'boys and skipping for the girls. The little ones were not overlooked and thoroughly enjoyed the “lolly men,” who had to run until exhausted, when they wero literally pulled to pieces. Each child received a prize. After the sports, afternoon tea was indulged, in, after which preparation was made for the homeward journey. Everyone spent a most enjoyable time,, and the kiddies are looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day, 1928. Those responsible for the outing desire to thank all those who contributed donations and prizes, and to those who so willingly assisted with the arrangements.
