RUGBY FOOTBALL

A well-attended meeting of Rugby players was held in Wjall’s rooms last night to discuss the formation ol' a now club. The meeting was convened 1 by Mr. W. Neville at the request of a number of players. Mr J. K. Hornblow was asked to preside. Mr. Neville said there was a certain amount of dissatisfaction, particularly among the Junior players in connection with club administration. Those present were all members of the Fox ton Club, and rather than associate themselves with any other club they preferred to form a new club or lake over the affairs of the Foxton Club. The chairman said they should carefully consider the steps they proposed to take. The Foxton club would still continue and the formation of a new club would not be in the best interests of the game locally. Another club w'ould mean wider representation on the Rugby Council, but on the other hand it would weaken the teams competing. It was questionable whether Foxton could maintain three clubs. Unity meant strength hut to divide the best players among several clubs resulted in a practice game'for other teams and in disheartening players. He strongly recommended thofee present to set forth their grievances at the annual meeting of the Foxton Club, and get representation on the committee and unite in strengthening their club and in promoting the best interests of the game locally. Mr. Hutchins said 1 any grievances they had could be rectified by their attendance at the annual meeting and the election of a committee and officials of their own choice. He said it would be a pity to weaken the Foxton Club of which they were all members, by having off. The Foxton club had been well conducted and the year had been a successful one financially. After a general discussion it was unanimously agreed to submit certain recommendations lo live annual meeting of the Foxton Club, and, provided that these were agreed to, that the formation of a separate club be. abandoned. The- following' committee was appointed to draw up recommendations : —Messrs \Y. Neville, 11. Ross, Stevenson, Scott, G. Perreau, Hartley, Cockrane, Tuna and Reilly. The committee then met and formulated recommendations for adoption at Monday night's meeting.

11 is anticipated that there will be a record attendance at the annual meeting oj' the Foxton Rugby Football Club in the Town Hall supperroom on Monday 'evening, when the report and balance-sheet will be submitted and recommendations brought forward to put the club on a better footing. It is proposed to elect sub-committees to govern the junior and fourth grade players. It was stated at last night’s meeting that the senior team would not be allowed to lapse and that the juniors this year would comprise one of the best combinations that had yet represented the club. The third and fourth grades would also be well represented this year. Several good coaches for the various teams have consented to offer their services and special committees will be set up to arrange details in connection with the locomotion of the teams.

The club this year gives promise of the most successful season since its formation.
