BOWLING

A rink consisting- of Huntley, Christie, Nyo, Thomson (s) paid a further visit to Levin yesterday, to try conclusions with Suhan’s team for the Kinnoburgh Feathers. Sulmn’s rink has during the past season or two put up quite a record in defence of these trophies; early during the current saason a Shannon rink secured them for a brief period after Sulian had defended them for some considerable time, but the Levin skip again secured the Feathers from Shannon in January, since when he and his players have staved off six challenges. Yesterday his team was playing particularly well, and although Foxton played good bowls, the home rink could not go wrong, and had an easy victory. The recent rain had put the green in nice order, and the sward was a pleasure to play on. The resultant scores are no actual indication of the play, practically every head being hardfought, with bowls in close proximity to -kitty, and the position changing as play proceeded. The final details are as follows: — Monks, Percy, Bull, Sulian (s) 31 v. Huntley, Christie, Nve Thomson (s) 12.

The following circular, letter has been received from the Manawatu Centre: —

“The Hew South Wales bowlers will visit Palmerston N. on March Bth, and the Auckland Centre on March 10 th. As some difficulty is being experienced in receiving re plies to Centre letters from some of the Clubs, it was decided at today's meeting ithat all Clubs be circularised asking them to state definitely whether they are prepared to take part in the matches. The allocation of players will be made later. A charge of 5s per player will be made to defray expenses of entertainment, etc. Please note that if no reply is received from your Club by Friday, 25th of February, it will be taken for granted tha/t you are unable to send representatives.” ft will be noted that to-morrow is the last day on which a reply is acceptable to the Centre Executive, and ‘therefore local bowlers who would like to make the trip are requested to hand in their names not later than this evening. In the absence of Mr Downes, Mr D. Christie will be pleased to receive names, which will be posted on the board in the Club’s pavilion.
