HOW ROSINA LINE GOT ITS NAME.
How Rosina Line derived its name is not generally known. The following reprint from the “Manawath Herald,” dated February 24th, 1880, throws an interesting light on the matter:—“The appearance in Foxton of the Carandini company reminds us that we have in the district a standing tribute to the popularity of one member of that highly talented family. It is now about ten yeas ago since the roads in the Carnarvon district were laid off; Whilst the surveyors were engaged in their work they had a • “spell” during which they- took a trip to Wellington, where they heard the Caradiuis. So delighted were they with Miss Carandini (Rosina) that upon their return they determined to name a line of road after her and to this day it is called “Rosina Line.” The above information is not generally known , but we can vouch for the truth of it. It is indeed a high compliment to. the popularity and ability of Madame Carandini’s eldest daughter.”
