At the Wellington Supreme'Court yesterday, the Chief .Justice refused to grant probation to George Desylla Zucco, an actor, found guilty of indecent exposure and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment.
Mr. .J. McLennan, an employee of the British Pavements Ltd., met with it painful accident on Thursday. i While carrying it bucket of boiling tiir in Coley Street, he fell and the contents severely burnt bis arm, which will incapacitate him lor some time.
At it meeting of the Canterbury Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, it was decided to write to the Minister for Railways drawing attention to the method of dispatching dogs by rail, suggesting that the present facilities* were inadequate.
Charles William McDonald (aged 3D), an epileptic, who violently assaulted his aged father (aged 71), was con victed at the Christ church S.M. Court yesterday and ordered 10 come up for sentence when called upon and was ordered to reside away from his father’s house.
A church parade of the 17th Artillery Battery, now in camp,* will ho held at the Soldiers’ Memorial, Main Street, at It) a.m. to-morrow. Lieut.-Colonel Cnthenvood, camp chaplain, assisted by local clergy, will conduct the service. If the weather is unfavourable, the service will he held in All Saints’ Church.
A statement published in Thursday’s Gazette indicates that from April 1,\192U, to January H, 1D27, the number of passengers carried on the railways decreased by 1,063,130, as compared with a similar period in the previous year. On the other hand the cattle, sheep and goods trattle showed a marked increase excepting in connection with limber where there was a decrease of 12,087) tons.
Mrs W. J’rcston, of Maroliri, one of those who received henelit from the Hickson Healing Mission, callmi upon us to-day, and stated that her recovery had been complete. Prior to the mission, about four years ago, she said, she was a 'cripple, and could not walk, withoutthe aid of; a stick, but since the mission the leg had healed, and her weight had increased by four stone. Mrs Preston informed us that, while under medical treatment she was informed that the leg would have to be, amputated.
