WANGANUI DISTRICT ANNUAL MEETING. HELD AT FOXTON. The annual meeting of the Manchester Unity, 1.0.0. F. was held in the Masonic Hal on Thursday at 2 p.m. Present: D.G.M. Bro. H. Christensen (Feilding), and D.S. Bro. I. Salek. (Wellington), deputies: Loyal Wanganui Lodge, Bros. T. M. Copeland, T. Gibson, F. Wilson, and G. Wilson; Loyal Manawatu Lodge, Bros. T. Bruce, F. Clai'lc and. S. .J, Watson; Loyal Manchester Lodge, Bros. E. A. Garliek and J. R. Park; Loyal Raetihi Lodge, Bros. P. 11. Petty and G. H. Wilkinson; Loyal Hautnpu Lodge, Bros. R. Howden; Loyal Kinibolton Lodge, Bros J. Heneghan; Loyal Foxton Lodge, Bros. W. Nye, semy and A. G. Huntley; Loyal Marlon Lodge, Bros. W. D. Jackson and 11. J. Fowler; Loyal Bulls Lodge, Bros. C. Forbes,, senr.; Loyal Rangitikei Lodge, Bros. D. T. Dilks.
The Grand Master declared the meeting open and welcomed the delegates.
The secretary reported that the year has been marked by the spread of that fraternal spirit, which conduces to the happiness of the members and prosperity of Lodges, with the result that great harmony and friendship exists among the members.
From the figures given below you will see the increase of funds, membership, and growth of the district. The total funds are shown at £53,134, an increase of £2096, ns against. £2510 for the preceding year. An amount of £1759 has been paid out for sickness benefits, which is £449 more than last year; whilst £lO5 has been paid out. for funeral benefits, as against £l3O for the preceding year. The membership stands at 12.19, an increase of 21 on the year’s work, as against 17 for the preceding year. The District. Secretary reported that the following Lodges had forwarded the necessary particulars in reference to amounts invested on mortgage: Loyal Apiti, Foxton, Kimbo'lton, Manchester, Manawatu, Hautapu and Rangitikei Lodges. The Book Examiner’s report on the Lodges was then considered. Bro. Bruce moved that Bros. Powell and Henaghan’s, names be placed on the list of nominations for the position of District Deputy Grand Master. Seconded by Bro. Miller and carried. The election of officers resulted as follows:—D.G.M. Bro. H. C. Christenson (Feilding); D.D.G.M. Bro. D. T. Di'lks (Palmerston North); management committee, Bros.P. Petty (Raeti'hi), E. A. Garliek (Feilding), G. Wilson (Wanganui), R. Howden (Taihape), S. J. Watson (Palmerston North),and J. Henaglian (Kimbolton); auditors, Bros. W. J. Allan and Heabl (Feilding); trustee, Bro. Keesing (Wanganui); treasurer Bro. W. D. Harris (Wanganui). It was decided oh the motion of Bros. Petty and Miller to hold the annual district meetings on the third Thursday in February. The 1928 annual meeting " was fixed for Marton.
D.S. Bro. Salek agreed to visit the Lodges in the district and to examine the books.
The remit from the Loyal Apiti Lodge to enable every Lodge in the district to be separated on the management committee was ruled out of order. The general rules limit the number to 9.
Bro. Fowler referred to the position of financial:members of the Order who became honorary members of a Lodge should be given the privilege of voting on all matters including questions of finance in connection with the funds they confuted to. Seconded by Bro. Forbes, and carried.
During the evening a number of members of the Loyal Foxton Logde were in attendance, and were welcomed by the Grand Master. D.S. Bro. Salek, in a very neat and conciliatory speech, gave sound advice to the Lodge as to its management.
A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Bro. Bruce for his efforts on behalf fif the district in connection with the Loyal Foxton Lodge. —Carried by acclamation, and duly acknowledged by Bro. Bruce.
Bro. Bruce moved that the sick funds of the Lodges in the Wanganui district be consolidated. Bro. Saleh referred to the fact that, a large number of the districts were opposed to consolidation. Upon a vote of the deputies being taken, resulted in a tie, viz.; for (10), against (10). The Grand Master gave his easting vote against the motion, which was therefore lost.
During the. afternoon session a vote of condolence was passed to the Loyal Antipodean Lodge, on account of the death of Bro. I. Clark.
The meeting adjourned at 10.30 p.m., and resumed at 9 a.ra. on Friday. The district levy was fixed at 4s for male and 2s for female members, on the motion of Bros. Penny and Fowler. k Ain application from the Loyal Apiti Lodge, for an extra £SO in cpnenction with the Hall property was recommended to the Board of Directors, on the motion of Bros. Petty and Dilks. The question of issuing a handbook wus referred to, and .it was requested that the Lodges should
forward the necessary information for insertion.
The' retiring Grand Master was voted £lO for expenses in connection with the visit to the Lodges in the district, on the motion of Bros. Fowler and Petty.
Bro. Garliek moved, and Bro. Jackson seconded, That the Loyal llautapu Lodge be asked to pay a fraternal visit to the Loyal Rangitikei Lodge, and Bro. Ilouten to report officially on the visit to the district. —Carried. Bro. Christensen was installed as D.G.M. by Bro. Gray. The ceremony was a very impressive one. Bi'o. Dilks was installed as D.D.G.M. by Bro. Watson. Bro. Salek referred, to the re-el-ection of Bro. Harris as treasurer, and also the attendance of Bro. Copeland as one of the Trustees. It was decided, on the motion of Bros. Betty and Gibson, to present Bro. Gray with a set of regalia and certificate, and to place his name on the Merit Board, and that his photo, be taken. The presentation was made by Bro. Salek. Bros. Christensen, Dilks and Gray acknowledged the cornplinients paid them. The officers and deputies were entertained by the Loyal Foxton Lodge. A vote of £2 was voted for incidentals, and a hearty vote of thanks was recorded on the motion of Bros. Howden and Miller. Bro. Nye duly replied on behalf of the local members. Bro. Patterson also thanked the meeting. The sum of £2 10s, as rent, was passed for payment, on the motion of Bros. Watson and Howdcp. It was decided to hold the Management Committee meeting at Palmerston North.
The minutes of the meeting were then read and confirmed.
