The Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) is attending the Municipal conference at Palmerston N.

Mr .J. H. Downes, local municipal gas manager, is attending the conference of gas engineers at Wellington. Mr G. F. Smith,' who was recently confined to his home with an indisposition, has now sufficiently recovered to return to business.

Mr William Trueman, local Town Clerk, attended a conljerenlce of town clerks held in Palmerston North on Tuesday and yesterday. The conference decided to form an association and constitution and rules governing same/;were agreed to.

The friends of Mr and Mrs Alex. Ross will regret to learn that both arc inmates of a private hospital in Palmerston N. Mrs Ross underwent an operation this morning, and, we are pleased to state, is progressing as satisfactorily as can be expected. Mr Ross is being treated for a serious form of diabetes. Mr. N. Bauchs, an undugraduate of the Liverpool University, who has been residing with local relatives, Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Hornblow, has been appointed to a mastership at the ,/Wanganui Boys’ Collegiate School, and will take up his duties on Monday. Since his arrival in Foxton, Mr Bancks has made many friends who will wish him success in his appointment.
