PUBLIC SWIMMING BATHS

Or. M. H. Walker, in conversation with our representative yesterday, stated (.hat he is and always has been in favour of public swimming baths. He stated that his criticism of the sites at the rear of the Borough Council office and Easton Park, was on the score of comparative expense. He stated that he preferred the Council site because an artesian well could he sunk for less than £IOO which would give a continuous flow into the bath without recourse to pumping, whereas if the baths were constructed in Easton Park it would necessitate pumping from a bore, as this site was on a higher level, or failing a bore it would cost £4 per week to refill, i.e. 84,000 gallons at 1/- per 1000 gallons. He said he way quoting figures supplied by Mr. J. Chrystall ex Mayor.
