DROWNING FATALITY

LITTLE BOY FALLS OVER THE ! WHARF. BODY RECOVERED. Wfhile playing on the waterfront this morning with his brother Frank, aged 8, and his cousin, Allan MeIvnight, aged 8, Joe Mounsey, aged G years, third son of Mr. and Mrs. George Mounsey, of Watson Street, Foxton, fell off the wharf into the river, striking his head on a launch and rolling under the boat. Frank immediately ran home to his mother to apprise her of the accident but Allan called out to some Maori women who were near by. Mr. A. Maggi, a seaman off the s.s. Kennedy which was moored a little further down stream, immediately ran to the spot and dived over, fully clothed, but was unsuccessful in locating the-little fellow, who was probably rendered unconscious by coining in contact with the launch, and failed to rise to the surface. Mr. K. Kennedy, who was nearby, also plunged into the river in an unsuccessful attempt to recover the body. In the meantime a large number of people gathered on the wharf and assisted Constable Owen in dragging for the body, but it was not until half an horn' had elapsed before Mi 1 . N. McLeod, a seaman off the Kennedy, recovered the body on a grapple. Artificial respiration was carried out for a considerable time but withont avail. '

The funeral will take place tomorrow at 3 o’clock/
