EDUCATIONAL.
JUNIOR NATIONAL SCHOLARSHIP'S. . SUCCESS OF LOCAL SCHOLARS. Malcolm J. Mason, son of the headmaster of the local District High School, was successful iu winning a Junior National Scholarship at. the examination held in November last. This is the first scholarship won by a pupil from the local school and we congratulate him upon his success. Patience Booth, Decema Brown, and Arthur Murphy obtained junior free places at the same examination. MATRICULATION Misses Hazel Spring and Teresa Hussey two pupils of the local 'District High School, succeeded in passing the Matriculation Examination of the New Zealand University, held in December of last year. These were the only two local candidates who sat for the examination and their success reflects credit upon'the school and indicates that the standard of work done locally is of a very high order. Miss Spring was also successful in obtaining a partial pass in the Teacher’s “D” Certificate Examination held in August last. Two ex-pupils of the school who matriculated last year, Gilbert Tver and Bernard Chrystall, were j successful in obtaining engineering preliminary passes.
