FIRE AT BAINESSE

Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Corley and their eight children, had a miraculous escape from death at about midnight on Tuesday night, when their six-roomed residence at Opiki, near Bainesse, was totally destroyed by five. The whole family was asleep at the time and on being roused made their exit from the blazing building with difficulty. Nothing was saved. The outbreak started in the washhouse which was attached lo the dwelling, and where a fire had been alight earlier in the evening. The insurances are not yet available. The blaze was visible from Foxton and the siren was sounded. The brigade paraded hut did not turn out as it was quite evident the conflagration was beyond the borough limits.
