BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The first meeting of the Foxton Borough Council this year was held in the Council Chambers last night, presided over by His Worship the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau). Also present were Crs. MeMurray, Walker, Thompson, Woods, Cowley, Parkin, Lucinsky, and Rand. It was decided that in future, no credit be given to any ratepayer over three months in arrears with an account. Cr. Cowley reported that Coley St. footpath was in a bad condition and needed immediate attention. Cr. MeMurray said that a mistake had been made when preparing this’ footpath for asphalting. The outside of the path, near the drain, had been prepared, whereas the side along the fence boundary should have received attention as the outside was liable to be eroded by a flood in the drain. It was pointed out that the footpath had been placed on the outside owing to trees growing along the fence boundary. On the motion of Cr. Woods, it was decided that, the road foreman ( be instructed .to clear the paths in Coley and Union Sts. along the fence line. A letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board asking f< r the use of the Town Hall supper room for cookery classes and also asking the Council if it would suppi \ two gas cookers free of cost. The Clerk stated that the installation of the cookers would cost in the vicinity of £25 and the amount of gas consumed by the Board during the year would not warrant the expenditure of such an amont, In 1025 the Board paid £1 5/11 for gas and in 1926 £1 14/10. Another point to be considered was that a District High School would be built in a short while, when the Board would no longer require the use of the supper-room. He had written the Board, pointing out those facts. —The Town Clerk’s action was endorsed. The Mayor was appointed delegate to the Municipal Conference, to be held in Palmerston N. next month, the Clerk to accompany him / if possible. A letter was received from the Audit Otfijce, suggesting that, to put the gas works account on a proper footing, a valuation of the woi'ks ho made at the end of the financial year (March 31st.) in order that a correct balance might be arrived at. —Agreed to. Cr. MeMurray suggested that some better method of ventilation he adopted for the dress circle in the town hall. The matter was left in the hands of the town hall mana ger. GAS MANAGERS’ REPORT.
