THE OLD STOCKADE.
Mr J. Ivebbell, of Levin, is anxious that a small area of land, a rising eminence at the rear of the local District High School, should he acquired and beautified as a reserve. On this spot in the early days a stockade was constructed to shelter the wives and families of' the early settlers in case of an attack from the Maoris. Mr Kebbell informs us that donations have been promised hv several settlers and Mr A 1 f. Fraser will receive contributions.
