MURDER CHARGE.

DYING MAN FOUND ON ROAD. Gisborne, December 29. Robert Cecil Thelwall Avas found outside the Record Reign Hotel in an unconscious condition yesterday and died a feAv hours afterwards in hospital. Following on a statement made this morning, Garnet Wolseley McMinn was arrested and charged with murder. McMinn is a freezing works employee at Kaitaratahi, and Thelwall was employed at the same trade. An inquest was opened before the Coroner, Mr E. C. Lev.vey, S.M., at the Cook Hospital this morning, .when formal evidence of identification was given. The inquest was then adjourned sine die. A post mortem examination is to he made of the body. William Guild Thelwall, a brother of deceased, said that Thelwall was a single man, 38 years of age] and was a freezing works butcher. He was recently employed at the quarry at Palualii. His health had always Leon good. Witness last saw. his brother alive yesterday afternoon, and he was then sober. His brother had occasionally had liquor, and after having it was not quarrelsome; in fact, if anything, was rather the other way. He had never actually seen his brother drunk. The inquest was 'then adjourned. Later in the morning, McMinn appeared at the Police Station to answer a charge of having murdered Robert Cecil Thelwall. Detective McLeod asked for a remand until Thursday, January 6, in order to carry out further investigations. Accused asked for hail, and no objection was made by Inspector Eceles, who. however, asked that, in view of the seriousness of the offence, it should lie substantial. Bail was allowed in two sureties of £250 or one of £SOO. The remand was granted.
