OFFICIAL YEAR BOOK
The Official Year Book for 1927, just to hand, contains 105(1 pages of information, as against the 616 • pages which constituted the volume issued in 1921-22, and three more sections than were presented in the 1920 publication. The new section on road incorporates the article on main highways which has hitherto appeared in the miscellaneous section; a section lias been devoted to legislation specially affecting labour; and the former wealth and income section has been largely extended and divided into two sections. The new Aveallh section not only deals with private wealth, but contains also such information as is available concerning public, wealth, together with figures regarding value of land holdings as compiled from the returns of land furnished annually to Ibo Commissioner of Taxes. A special article by Mr. L. 8. Pohlen, A.T.A., of the Government Actuary’s Department, gives the results of bis recent actuarial investigation into the Dominion’s mortality rates, while Air. J. C. Andersen’s article on the Mission, of the Britocart at Akaroa in 1840 should help (the Government Statistician believes) to remove the misconception which still clings to that early event in the history of New Zealand. In addition to the new sections, several other sections contain considerable additional matter, and the sub-sections dealing with State indebtedness and with hospitals and charitable institutions have been almost entirely rewritten. All statistical, legislative, and other matter has been brought up to date, and the eariv prorogation of. Parliament lias enabled a synopsis of the legislation of the 1020 session to he in-, eluded in the.issue.
