MAXAWATU MEETING. There was a large gathering ai Awapuni yesterday. The tolalisator l>ut through £52,024, as against £57,765 last venr, a decrease of £5,741. Manawatu Cup:—Novnr 1, Euphonium 2, Rapier 3. Won by the narrowest margin. Time 2.37 2-5. Nursery Handicap:—Paleta 1, Reckless 2, Tom Bracken 3. Won by half a length. Time 1.2 1-5. Gillies Handicap:—Lin Arlington 1, Outfit 2, Zarisee 3. Won by three quarters of a length. Time 1.16. Eit/.herbert Handicap:—Royal Damon 1, Lady Ben thick 2, Orchid 3. Wlon by one and three-quarters lengths. Time 1.15 1-5. Grandstand Handicap:—Polar 1, Penman 2, Modern 3. Won by half a length. Time 1.40. Seventh Day Adventists of the North Island are holding a conference camp under canvass at Lower Hntt. About 400 adults and 100 children are expected to be assembled bv to-day. The conference lasts until January, 0. The first 50,000 ballots in the religious poll being taken by the churches in America, show that 89 per cent, of the voters believe in (tod. Fifteen per cent, do not believe in the immortality of the soul, 77 per cent, believe in the Divinity of Christ, 07 per cent give religions instruction to their children, and 70 per cent, are church members.
