TAR SEALING OF BOROUGH ROADS AND FOOTPATHS.
GOOD PROGRESS BEING MADE. It was a wise move on the part of the Foxton Borough Council to accept the tender of British Pavements Ltd., for the tar-sealing of the roads and footpaths within the borough in accordance with the No. 3 Roads and Footpaths Impovements Loan. Under the supervision of Mr Hempleman, the work is going apace and, according to those in a position to know, the ratepayers of Foxton are getting good value for their money. A noticeable point about the company is that they are not very particular about keeping strictly to the specified width in the tar-sealing of the roads. In Lady’s Mile the roadway has been tar-sealed at least eighteen inches wider than the specifications provide. At last night’s Borough Council meeting a progress payment of £3OO was passed and Cr. Woods was appointed, with the Town Clerk, to certify all future work for the purpose of making progress payments from time to time. Councillors expressed themselves as being very satisfied with the manner in which the work was being carried out. Over £450 worth of work has already been carried out. Lady’s Mile has been given its first coat of tar right up to Mr Tongs’ residence, at the junction of Duncan St., while Park St. and Norbiton Rd. have been scarified and prepared for tar-sealing.
