ENTERTAINMENTS.

ROYAL PICTURES. Although ‘‘Man and Maid,” the Elinor Glyn production which is showing at the Royal to-morrow night, is laid at the time of the World War, none of the actual battle scenes are viewed. The only effect the war has upon the picture is an explosion scene in- the Red Cross office in which the hero is injured and which serves to bring him to the heroine. The war has nothing to do with the story, which tells I lie powerful (ale of a great man and a very beautiful lady. There are surprises aplenty, and as in all of the Glyn productions, magnificent sets and clothes. Extra: “The Fighting Ranger,” Jack Hoxie, screen star on horseback, will he seen in “A Six Shootin’ Romance,” a new Western thriller pul out by the Universal-Blue Streak Western, on Saturday at the Royal Theatre. Exciting scenes, an enthralling love story, and beautiful photography, share honours with the star in this great screen play. Century comedy: “Movie Madness.” ALASKAN DRAMA AT TOWN HALL. Carrying the unusual title “The Cheehacos,” (Alaskan for “newchums”) Saturday’s eight reel super feature at the Town Hall comes to Foxton with the reputation of being the greatest thriller ever filmed, amidst the snow country of the North. Telling in a dramatic fashion a story of the great quest for gold in Alaska and the cruel deception of a young miner of a girl ward placed in his charge, and how many years later the culmination of a long feud cleared up the whole complex situation, this picture is guaranteed to keep any .audience on the tiptoes of excitement. Several big lights add zest to the tale. Comedy “The Champcen” and the latest Rathe Gazette. Prices as usual. Next week “That’s My Baby” and “Rustlin’ for Cupid.” THE SHIPWRECKED PANTOMIME AND OPERA CO. Shipwrecked on Slipper Rock, some nine months ago when the illfated “Manaia” met her doom, the popular Stanley McKay Pantomim.e and Opera C : o., is to visit Foxton, staging “My Geisha Girl” in the new Town Hall on Monday, December 13th. As extensive damage was done to the scenery and costumes by contact with the salt water, a complete new wardrobe and freshly painted scenery have been secured for this New Zealand tour, so intending patrons can rely on seeing something elaborate in both dressing and staging. Mr Walter George, whose productions were a household word on the Fuller circuit, has been specially engaged and is to stage the most successful of his extensive repertoire of musical plays. Artists new in the company' include Madeline Knight, whose beautiful mezzo-soprano voice is to he heard in the very latest operatic and musical comedy numbers; Will Raynor, a soloist tenor of distinction; Jack Raymond, a handsome juvenile lead; and the Four Little Kellys,' a quartette of marvellous juvenile musicians. Frank Pcrryn, English comedian, Arthur Meredith, the- funny fellow, Maudie Stewart, Australia’s quaintest comedienne, and Laurie McLeod, the beautiful Eastern dancer, are still members of Mr McKay’s new company. Seats may be reserved at Heath’s.
