FATAL MOTOR SMASH.
HUSBAND KILLED, W(IFE IN SERIOUS CONDITION. Taurangn, Dee. 4. A motor ear 'fatality occurred this afternoon about nine miles from Tauranga, on the TaurangaWaihi road. It appears that MrLeslie Allan Cooper, employed at the Borough hydro-eleetric station at McLaren’s Falls, with his wife and two children, drove to Waikino yesterday to bring Mrs Cooper’s parents,, Mr and Mrs John Odium, aeross for Christmas. The party were returning to-day and( when they reached the point stated the ear apparently swerved, hit the bank and capsized. Cooper, who was driving, was thrown out through the windscreen, and Mrs Cooper was also thrown out clear. The children escaped uninjured but Mr Odium was picked up dead and Mrs Odium was found seriously injured. Her condition is critical, an examination in the Tauranga Hospital showing that the unfortunate lady was suffering from a fractured skull, a broken leg and internal injuries.
