VALEDICTORY SOCIAL.
* TO TOWN HALL CONSTRUCTION ; EMPLOYEES. A very pleasant social function took place at the residence of Mrs J. M. Thomson’s, Thynne St., last night, when a farewell evening was tendered the workmen on the new Town Hall. Cards, games and dancing was indulged in and a most enjoyable time was spent by all. Mrs. Hay won the first prize in the progressive five hundred, while Mr C. Vnrnliam annexed Ihe gents’ prize. Mrs Perreau and Mr Spring snr., annexed the “booby” prizes. At aj suitable juncture during the evening, the Mayor (Mr M. E. Pcrreau), in thanking Mrs Thomson for her kindly action, in organising a send-off to the men who had been engaged on the construction of the new Town Hall, expressed regret at their departure from Foxton. He had not met a_ finer body of men anywhere, he said (applause). He also whished to take the opportunity of thanking them all for their assistance in connection with the carnival, and particularly Messrs Rogers and Carter. They, had been the means of raising many pounds for the funds and the citizens were indebted to them for their assistance.
Mr T. Rogers returned thanks on behalf of his colleagues and said (hat they had.all enjoyed their stay in Foxton and were sorry they were leaving. All he could say was “that the people of Foxton had graduated with honours in the school of bos-, pitality.” Mr W!m. Trueman responded on behalf of Mr and Mrs J. M. Thomson.
Dancing was indulged in until a late hour and a happy gathering broke up with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem. •
