SALVATION ARMY.

Welcome to commissioner AND MRS. ITAY. The Royal Theatre was tilled last night with a happy throng of Salvationists and representatives of other denominations and the general public to extend a welcome to Commissioner and Mrs Hay, on the occasion of their tirst visit to Foxton. The Commissioner was accompanied by the genial, and by the way, well-beloved pal of numbers of returned soldiers, in the person of Brigadier MacCauley. The Commissioner and Mrs Hay were given a hearty welcome by the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau), the Rev. \V. H. Walton (Anglican Church), Mr J. Chrystall (Methodist, acting in the unavoidable absence of the Rev. S. Peryman), and Mr J. K. Hornblow (Presbyterian). The Commissioner and Mrs Hay in brief happy speeches, acknowledged the welcome. The rest of the evening was taken up with i* demonstration by the children connected with the local corps and they acquitted themselves with credit. The programme was as follows: Pianoforte duet, Horace and Phyllis Tongs; descriptive,. song, “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” company; recitation, Arthur Stone; maypole drill, boys and girls; company song, “Do you Know the Song,” company; instrumental trio, Masters Arthur Stone, Charles Parfitt and Horace Tongs; dialogue, “Mother’s Darlings,” Florrie Symon, Pay Andrews, Horace Tongs, Gordon and Arthur Stone; star drill * by children; “good night” drill by tiny tots; pianoforte solo, Ella Hutchins; tableau, “All ye That Pass By,” recitation, Gordon Stone; coihpany song, “The Children’s Priend,” Hag drill; dialogue, “God’s Gifts,” Joyce de Bidder, Pay Andrews, Plorrie Symon, Phyllis Tongs, Ella Wallbutton, Prances Good; company song, “The Song in My Heart.” Mrs Hay distributed the prizes ' consisting of a large number of books, to the children. The entertainment as a whole, reflected credit upon Capt. and Mrs Stone’s patient training of the little ones, who dis-. played great talent. Mr Tongs was responsible for training the children in the choruses. An orchestra, consisting of the following instrumentalists: Miss Patterson, Messrs H. Osborne, Betty, Ebbett, Capt. Mahaffie and Small, contributed acceptable selections at intervals. Special praise is due to Capt. and All’s Stone who were assisted by Mrs Tongs, Miss Brown, Mr and Mrs Good. The charming dresses of the little ones gave a pleasing effect to the grouping.
