ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS.
MUST NOT BE INTERFERED WITH. At this week’s meeting of the llorowhenua Power Board, a consumer attended to explain the use of a contrivance which had the effect of converting' the change-over switch on a water heater into continuous action. The proceedings were taken in committee, but at the conclusion it was decided by the Board that the matter was regarded so seriously that a certain amount of publicity should be given to the decisions arrived at and the. general circumstances. The reason given for the use of the apparatus was that the heater would not supply the water hot enough for dairying purposes. It was also claimed that complaint had been made to the Board’s officers about the inefficiency of the heater. The officers strongly denied that such complaint had reached them and the Board accepted their statements and expressed full confidence in their staff. The use of the apparatus, it was stated, not only meant that more current was being used than was being paid for, but, if generally resorted to, might so increase the peak load that it would cost the Board hundreds of pounds for current. After hearing the explanation given, and full consideration of the circumstances, the following resolutions were unanimously passed: “That no further action be taken with regard to the use of a homemade apparatus in a water-heater installation,, this being a first case and the consumer having expressed regret at this meeting of the Board, and, providing also that the consumer pay the difference due as between the two rates.” “That a circular be issued to all consumers, pointing out that the Board will lake proceedings against any person who may interfere with any of the Board’s installations in such a manner as to alter their use as devised; 1 also that consumers be asked to make all complaints in writing.” It was pointed out that very often casual remarks might be made to meter readers that some part of an installation was not very good, but these could not be taken as definite complaints. In the case of a breakdown of the service, of course, a report in writing would not be expected. V —— . ■
