Arising out of the fact that Mr G. J. Wallace, Mayor of Timaru, did engineering "work for the borough council nine months before he joined the council, the account for which (£l9) was paid after lie became Mayor and had sold his business, the Auditor-General has written, suggesting that he should refrain from exercising the function of Mayor or councillor till such time as lie shall have been re-elected, in which case no further action on the part of the Audit Department would be necessary. A formal resignation, it was stated, would facilitate adjustment of the position. At a special meeting of the borough council this week, Mr.' Wallace resignel and the council adjourned till next Thursday night for the purpose of electing a Mayor.
