Five pellets entered his back and shoulder. Joyce was arrested by Constable Neal and charged with attempted murder. Apparently there was no disturbance prior to the shooting, and strict reticence is being maintained. The two Natives, it is understood were at the rear of a stable about 11 o’clock, when two shots are alleged to have been fired, and it is averred that Joyce escaped more serious injury only by ducking low. As il was, five pellets entered his back and shoulders, but the injuries indicted were not sufficiently serious to occasion alarm. Accused is a married man with one child. He was taken into custody, and appeared before Air. E. €. Levvey, S.AI., in the Magistrate’s Court, Port Awanui, this? morning. On the application of the police he was reipanded to appear at Ruatoria on Saturday.
