HOMING PIGEON IN SHIP’S CABIN.
Chistehurch, November 6. Awakened by a thud about 4 a.m. yesterday, a lady who, with her husband, was occupying a cabin on the s.s. Maori, on the way to Lyttelton, switched on the light. It was, however, no race-week sneak thief she discovered, but an exhausted pigeon, which had flown in through the port in the dark. Upon examination it was found to be the bearer of a message which, when taken off, turned out to be a New Zealand Can prediction. The pigeon had evidently been tossed at Riceatron, and its destination was an important sporting centre in the North Island. The message was, in short, an announcement to the person to whose loft the pigeon was homing, concerning two supposedly good things for Riccarton to-day. As luck would have it, neither horse won.
