THE TOURING MAORI TEAM.

DEFEATS CARDIFF BY 18 TO 8. London, November 0. The Maoris defeated Cardiff by 18 to 8. YVjretehed weather affected the attendance yet twenty thousand were present. The play, especially the passing', was poor. The Maori team was: Pelham, Falwasser, Wineera, Phillips, Olsen, Stewart, Mete, Love, Gemmell, Stewart, Haupapa, Rftka, Tatana, Wilson, and Manihera. It was the failure of the Cardiff backs to handle the ball securely that caused the size of the Maoris’ score. This was especially so in the second spell, when the forwards were often so successful. It would have been wiser tactics to keep the ball close, instead of which they attempted to open up the game and the ball went astray, enabling the Maori opportunists to gain the advantage. Cardiff scored first, Davies dribbling after Falwasser had lost possession near the line, and getting over for Male to convert. The Maoris rallied quickly and Love scored a good try which Phillips failed to convert. Male then landed'a penalty goal, after which Mete, charging down Davies’ kick secured a try, Pelham adding the goal. At halftime the scores stood B—B.8 —8. The Maoris improved in the second half, the forwards especially working hard. Pelham, Falwasser, and Mete being most prominent in defence. Love charged down Turnbull’s kick, secured the ball and passed to Wineera, who got across, Pelham converting. The visiting forwards, dribbling magnificently, worked the ball to the Cardiff line, where Cornish failed to gather it in and Wineera scored another try, while Pelram finished off with another try. Huddersfield defeated the New Zealand League team by 10 to 8. FRANCO-BRITISH TOUR. November 18 —East Midlands. November 20 —London County. November -24 —Hampshire.
