FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. REPORTS were read and dealt with as follows: WATER, AND DRAINAGE The waterworks foreman (Mr W. Neville) reported as'follows: —During the month the following works have been carried out: Two storm water pipes have been laid at the Town Hall and all the gntterings painted. During the month 995,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 31 amps. —Adopted. It was decided to add ten per cent, to all rates outstanding ou the 4th December 1920. Details in connection with the opening of the new Town Hall on December Ist were discussed and it was decided to ask Messrs J. Linklater and J. A. Nash, M.’sP. to open the hall in the absence of the Gov-ernor-General. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (AH’ G. Huntley) reported as follows: —During the month the road staff has been engaged on the following works: Patching ruts in Russell St., work- j ing with grader in Lady's Alile, Laion St., Xorbilon Rd. and Johnston St., discharging fine metal and sand to yard; carting sand and blinding various roads whereHhe metal was too open; cleaning culvert and repairing same in Hillary St., relaying new culvert Purcell St., assembling new road grader and general maintenance work. The exceptional wet weather experienced during the month caused a great deal of delay in attending to the various drains and culverts, reported the foreman. Some bad slips have taken place in the Avenue Rd. drain where, the banks are high, and it is only now that the drain is low that these can be repaired. —Adopted. It was decided to inform Airs Hood, in answer to her complaint re lhe drain in Avenue Rd., that same would be attended to at the earliest convenience, and that the work had been held up owing to inclement ' weather. ■ L The matter of cleaning out the drain across Afessrs Ross, Rough’s property from Frances St., was left in the hands of the Town Clerk. THE GAS WORKS. SEPTEMBER WORKING. The amount of gas manufactured during the month of September was .380,500. ft., which, with the amount in the holder on September Ist, 19,600 ft., made a total of_ j* 400,100 ft. During the month, 330- *> - 100 ft. were used by consumers, 21,000 ft. at the works, and 18,200 ft. were in the holder on October Ist, making a total of 369,300 ft. W accounted for, and leaving 31,800 ft., representing 7.6 per cent., un accounted for. Thirty-five tons of coal was carbonised; yielding 10,874 c.ft. of gas to the. ton, and producing 8 tons scwt. of - coke. The receipts for the month totalled £203 4s Od, and were made up as follows: Gas sales (lighting) £45 12s 9d,. heat .and power £97 18s fid, coke sales £3l 5s Id, tar sales £22 l£s, fittings £4 16s 6d, miscellaneous 14s 2d. The expenditure for the month totalled £235 11s Id, and was made up as follows: Coal £9B 5s lOd, salaries and wages £SO 14s, services and fittings £9 7s, repairs to house £5 5s 7d, metei« £6 19s lid, cartage and freight £2 7s 7d, working expenses 9s fid, Power Board £2 10s, interest and sinking fund £59 11s Bd.
