FOXTON DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of: the above was held in the secretary’s office last night, presided over by Mr F. Woods (chairman). Also present were Messrs J. IC. Hornblow, Hutchins, Perreau, Walton, Roore, and the headmaster (Mr F. Mason). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs/ Alsop, Ross and A. Stevenson. Correspondence was received from the Education Boad, advising payment of subsidy to the amount of £3l 10/-. —‘Received. Fom same re conveyance of children from Ilimatangi and Motuiti. —Mr Hornblow stated that the Board at last meeting had decided to apply to the Department for a grant of 9d per child to meet the conveyance expenses. The chairipan stated that the native owners of the section adjoining 111 aka ra Garden and the school grounds had signed a transfer of same to the Education Board as a site upon which to erect the building to accommodate the secondary classes. Mr Perreau was accorded a vote of thanks for obtaining the signatures to tlie transfer and Mr Hornblow was instructed to forward same to the Board .and to urge the immediate construction of the building. The visitors (Messrs Hutchins and Hornblow) recommended concreting portion of the girls’ playground; placing wire-noting along the tennis court hedge and removing portion of a fence separating (he boys and girls plavgounds and replacing same with a manuka trellis fence, the same to be planted with climbing roses. —Recommendations left in the hands of the chairman and Mr Hutchins with power to act. Accounts amounting to £53 7/7 were passed for payment. Visitors for the month: Messrs Roore and Stevenson. The headmaster infoi*med the committee that it was his intention to organise a school concert to raise funds for the ground improvement purposes. It was decided to thank Mr Alsop for erecting a cupboard at the side-school for library purposes. Messrs) Hornblow and Walton referred to the necessity of draining off surface water in the vicinity of the side school at the Bench.
