CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce was held in Ross’s Rooms on Thursday evening, presided over by the President (Mr J. K. Hornblow). Also present were Messrs C. A. Pearson, D. R. Barron, 11. Osborne, F. Woods, A. Yeo, 11. Hornblow, A. Admore, G. Smith, R. McMurray, M. E. Perreau, W. Trueman, D. Christie and the secretary (Mr R. Hornblow). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W- E. Barber, Jno. Ross and F. Mason. A letter was received from Mr J. A. Nash, notifyingthe Chamber of a meeting re the agricultural college, to be held in Palmerston N. — Mr Perreau reported that he had represented the Chamber at the meeting. The object of the meeting was to form an Agricultural College League for the North Island. There was a good attendance, representatives being present, from all parts of the Island and a good committee had been set up. He undertook to act in future on behalf of-the Chamber as well as the Borough Council. Mr Perreau referred to Mr Newton’s remarks at the previous meeting in connection with encouraging children to save their pennies and suggested that the chamber should take some steps in the matter. — Left in the hands of Messrs Woods, and Perreau, to confer with the postmaster (Mr Newton) and headmaster of the District High School (Mr F. A. Mason). Mr 11. Osborne suggested that the Beautifying Society should be approached and asked to erect two seats in front of the post office. — Left in the hands of Mr Perreau. Mr Barron brought before the Chamber the necessity for the provision of suitable parking places for cars in the town. It was decided to recommend to the Borough Council the setting aside of two places, one in front of the Presbyterian Church, and another opposite the Post Office, the parking ground in front of the Town Hall to remain and that one also be provided in front of the Royal Theatre. Mr McMurray also brought under the Chamber’s notice the practice of motor-cyclists riding machines in the borough without silencers. It was decided to also refer this matter to the Council.
