INSPECTION OF MEAT.
PROTEST BW LEVIN BOROUGH
COUNCIL. At this week’s meeting of the Levin Borough Council, Cr. Parker asked whether they could find out from the Department the percentage of stock slaughtered that was inspected and whether there had been any inspection since the In"spoctor was' withdrawn from the district. He understood there had. been none and if that was so, the Department’s riiothods were entirely unsatisfactory. It was a retrograde step to withdraw the Inspector after he had been there for years, and if it was necessary to inspect the meat in other places, it was also necessary on this coast. What was really needed was an in-spector-veterinary surgeon. Cr. Roe said Palmerston N. and Feilding had abattoirs and all meal was inspected. It was absolutely wrong that there should be no Stock Inspector here. Cr. McAllister: It. is a question of the public health. If cattle are being killed that are affected with tuberculosis it will affect the public health. ; It was decided to write to tin; Department of Agriculture again and enquire as (o the position in regard to meat inspection and generally as to the Stock Inspector.
