TWO STOWAWAYS.

DEALT WITH LENIENTLY.

Auckland, October 27,

Unable to secure work in Australia, two young labourers decided to try their luck in New Zealand, and to minimise expenses, they chose a recess in the stokehold of the steamer Mamma as their travelling quarters. When the steamer was .two days out they were discovered and to-day they were charged in the Magistrate’s Court with stowing away on the steamer. “I have trekked over the Blue Mountains in search of work,” said one of the men.

They were convicted and ordered to come up for sentence in three months’ time. “If you pay your fares nothing more will be heard about this,” said the Magistrate.
