RESCUES BOY ON STEEP CLIFF FACE.
Christchurch, Last Night
A thrilling rescue under iierilous conditions was performed on a cliff at the seaside by a party of fishermen.
A lad had fallen from the top and could not get up or down. An attempt was made to lower a rope to him, but lie was over 300 feet from the top and could not bo reached.
A lifeboat was then taken to the foot of the cliff at great risk, owing to the surf breaking on jagged rocks, and one of the crew climbed 70 feet but could not get closer than five feet from the boy.
The man returned to the boat, got. a rope, and climbing the cliff again, threw the rope end to the boy, who made it fast and lowered himself to his rescuer.
The performance of this difficult and hazardous feat roused wider spread admiration amongst the helpless onlookers.
