The death occurred at Levin on Sunday of Mr Williams Ingram, aged, 83 years. Alexander Rose, who died at Auckland on Saturday, aged 86, had been seventy years in New Zealand and was the oldest Customs officer in the Dominion when he retired from the position of Collector of Customs at Auckland in 1905.

The war veteran, Mr George Ballantyne Turnbull, aged 70, who joined up at the age of 60 and served in the Great War with his four sons, died suddenly at Dunedin yesterday. He leaves a family of eight sons and daughters, residing in various parts of New Zealand.

One of the oldest identities 'of Wellington, in the person.of Mr Robert Tait, senr., passed away on Sunday, aged 95 years. Mr Tait possessed all his faculties and took an enthusiastic interest in things right up to the time of his death. He was alwaysja keen reader, and he was proud of the fact that he never had to use spectacles.

Mr J. A. Nash, M.P., who was a visitor to Foxton yesterday, informed us that his first job was in this office, “and it lasted just a fortnight,” said Mr Nash. The reason of his sudden departure was an objection to the “ragging” practised on beginners in those days, which among other pleasant surprises, included dipping the head of the “devil” in the lye pot —the contents of which consisted of a strong solution of washing soda.
