GOVERNOR-GENERAL VISITS LEVIN.
PRESENTATION OF HISTORIC FLAG.
The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson, paid an official visit to Levin yesterday, and were received by the Mayor and Councillors, and a public gathering tendered a loyal address of welcome. Ilis Excellency presented to the District High School, an historic ling*,, originally sent by the scholars to the Maori Pioneer Battalion in France, and subsequently presented, it being the only New’ Zealand ensign available, to the Mayor of Le Quesnoy, when the Rifle Brigade liberated that city from German domination in 1917.
The flag has since been returned to the school by the authorities of Le Quesnoy, its place being taken by a N.Z. Ensign given by the Government. The formal handing over to the custody of the school was made by His Excellency. Later the Governor-General attended a Father and Son banquet promoted by: the Y.M.C.A., and designed to foster a greater spirit of comradeship between lads and their parents.
