OBITUARY.
GEORGE WHITE, AGED 83 YEARS.
The death occurred at Foxton, on Sunday, of Mr. George "White, one of Petone’s oldest identities. Born in West Leicester, England, in 1843, Mr. White arrived in the Dominion in 1873, and subsequently settled at Petone, where he joined the New Zealand railways. He retired on superannuation in 1905. Mr. Whito was one of the founders of the Star of New Zealand Lodge of Druids. Besides being a prominent member of the Old Petone Navals, he was also connected with what was known in those days as the Petone Voluntary Fire Brigade. Of a kindly disposition, Mr. White: had many friends. He leaves four sons and for daughters, his wife having predeceased Aim some twenty-two years ago. The 1 , names of the family are S. Hickson, Lower Hutt; Mrs J. S. Coley, Foxton; Mrs Robert Turner, Wanganui; Mrs G. Martin,, Petone; Messrs G. White, Marton; W. White, Palmerston North; C. H. White, Wellington; A. E. White, Petone. There are 41 grandchildren and six great-grand-child-ren. The interment took place at Karori Cemetery on Tuesday last.
