The show was officially opened during the afternoon by Mr D. Christie, president of the Foxton Horticultural Society. Mr Christie said he felt highly honoured when he was asked to make the opening speech, and wished to congratulate the committee and exhibitors on their magnificent display. In a pleasure-loving age such as we live in it was very gratifying to see that so many people still found time to grow such beautiful flowers, and he was sure the exhibits staged would do credit to any show in the Dominion. The speaker said many of his Foxton friends had taken prizes which was a credit to them when once considered they had to compete with flowers grown in the district which hall some of the finest soil, in New Zealand. He hoped that Rongotea exhibitors would visit their show in future. After extending thanks for hospitality received in Rongotea, the speaker concluded by declaring the show open.
