BOROUGH COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING,
Ihe usual monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers last night. Reports were read and dealt with as follovYs:-*-,WATER. AND DRAINAGE REPORT. The waterworks foreman reported as follows: —During the month the following wolrk was Carried out: laying a one and a-half inch water service to the new Town Hall; planting trees in Victoria Park, installation of 1 one water service, fencing pound reserve and general maintenance work.
Pumping Station Report.—During the month 975,000 gallons of water was pumped, the maximum current used being 32 amps. The sewer pump had to be used a good deal during the month to pump out the storage tank as the river has not been down to normal since the Hood.—Adopted. ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman reported as follows: During the past month the road staff has been engaged on the following work’s: Grading paths, Avenue Road, Lady’s Mile, Robinson and Duncan Sts., Ravensworth Place, Tliynne, Union, and Frances Sts. in accordance with the No. 3 . Loan. These paths are now being metalled as) material arrives. Good use has been made of a road plough loaned by the Rangitikei County Council in breaking up Norbiton and anid Avenue Roads and Union St. This plough was also used on the sides of various roads to faciliate
the work of the grader. All the roads have now been metalled which are included in the No. 3 Loan and blinding and consolidating work will now be carried out so that they may be in order for tar sealing when the time comes. In regard to maintenance work, the Harbour St. culvert has been cleaned out and a, new facing erected at the inlet. A six inch culvert was also laid across .Tenks St., to carry off surface water and a concrete facing erected in Russell St. —Adopted. The Mayor reports that during the month the Public W'ork’s Committee had decided to purchase a new grader and it had been doing good work on the borough roads.
RESIGNATION. Ci’. Adams forwarded a letter resignation from his position on the Council owing to ill health. —Accepted with regret, hope being expressed that Cr. Adams would be speedily restored to health. CORRESPONDENCE was read and dealt with as follows : From the Palmerston North Borough Council'stating that at a conference of loYal 'boilies held on August 20th, it was unanimously decided, that Mr. R, W. HolmeS, of Wellington, be appointed engineer to consult with the solicitors representing the local bodies at the Commission and that the engineer’s expenses be met by the local bodies cited to appear, on the basis of the unimproved value of each. Messrs Mr. B. Bergin and F. H. Cooke were duly appointed to act jointly in preparing objections to the scheme. — Confirmed. From the Foxton Cricket Club requesting for permission to play on Easton Park and also to be allowed to prepare a turf pitch thereon. —Permission granted, the pitch to be approved by Crs Woods and Mc- ' Murray. From the Kairanga County Council stating that at a meeting of representatives of the six countries in the No, 10 group, it was agreed that the Receiver’s fee for collections, and quarterly opportionments should be £6 6s per quarter,. and asking the Council to agree to this charge. —Agreed to. From the Foxton Silver Band, thanking the Council for making provision in its estimates for a grant to the band of £lO. —Decided to hand the donation over to the band.
