FOXTON HARBOUR BOARD.

MEETING OF LOCAL COMMITTEE.

A meeting of the lpcal committee of the Foxton Harbour Board was held in the Board’s office on Saturday evening and was presided over by Mr. J. Linklater, M.P. (chairman). Also present were: Messrs W. E. Barber, R. McMurray and the secretary (Mr. R. Rangiheuea). Messrs. C. Whitehead, A. G. Dawick, A. Alsop (representing the Beach Improvement Committee) and Captain Larsen were also in attendance.

Electric Lighting. Resolved (Barber-Linklater) to write to the Horowhenua Power Board calling attention to the unsatisfactory and unreliable electric street lights at Manawatu Heads. Extension Main Beach Road. — Resolved (Barber-McMurray) to ask the chairman to approach the Public Works Department to bring the proposed extension to the Main Beach *Road by way of the Sanatorium within the Main Highway scheme at the earliest possible moment. <s> Light Railway.—Resolved (Bar-ber-McMurray) to ask the Beach Improvement Committee to organise a petition from all schools in Palmerston and in the neighbouring towns recpiesting the Government to reconsider the question of running a light railway to Manawatu Heads.

Water. — Resolved (LinklaterBaiber) to call tenders for the erection of a concrete tank for the conservation of water at Manawatu Heads and to use coke and cinders in lieu of metal in construction of same.

Bathing Shed. —Resolved (Bar-ber-McMurray) to authorise the Beach Improvement Committee to remove and re-erect the present bathing shed at the Plantation Reserve near the flag-staff and to add the necessary conveniences to same.

Marram Grass. —Resolved to plant marram grass on the river foreshore in lieu of the proposed galvanised iron fence to combat the sand menace.

Suitable Street Names. —Resolved , (Barber-Linklater) to ask the Beach Improvement Committee to submit suitable street names for the Board’s approval at its next meeting.
