FOXTON FOOTBALL CLUB
SUGGESTED AMALGAMATION AVtITH MANAWATU.
A special general meeting of the Foxton Football Club was held in the Presbyterian Sunday schoolroom last night, presided over by Mr H. Hutchins (Chairman). There was a good attendance of members. The Chairman said the object of the meeting was to approach the Manawatu Rugby Council with a view to having the existing boundaries altered so as to include Foxton in the Manawatu Rugby district. Foxton would derive a great deal of benefit from inclusion in the Manawatu district. In the past Foxton teams had been greatly inconvenienced by floods, which had been particularly bad this year and as a result, matches were lost through players being out of training, and when matches w T ere played, the team very often had to forfeit through the members not being able to get together. Other reasons in favour of a 'change-over to Manawatu were that the travelling expenses would be reduced by half, they would have better playing grounds, more conveniences and less travelling distance. At present it cost Foxton Seniors about £1 per man to travel to the southern end of the district. Foxton had been part of the Manawatu district once.
On the motion of Messrs Barron and Stevenson it was unanimously decided that the Foxton Club make representations to the Combined Union to have the present boundaries altered between the Horowhenua and Manawatu Unions by making the ManaAvatu River the boundai’y between the two Unions. . The motion was carried unanimously and it ivas decided that a deputation consisting of the Chairman and Secretary, together with Mr J. Iv. Hornblow, wait on the Combined Council at Palmerston N. on Thursday night and place the resolution before them.
