FOXTON BOWLING CLUB.
SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING. A special general meeting of members of the Foxton BoNvling Club was held in Ross’ Buildings last evening, there being a fair attendance of members present. The President (Mr Perreau) in outlining the purpose of the meeting, said that at the present juncture it was necessary to deal with the appointment of a new secretary, to fill the vacancy caused by the removal of Mr Winstanley from the district, consideration of the engagement of a caretaker and any other business that members had to bring forward. Before proceeding with the business of the evening, Mr F. Woods said he would like to propose a vote of sympathy with Mr A. Speirs in the loss he had sustained in the death of Airs Speirs. Mr Speirs had been one of,the foundation members of the Club. The motion was carried in silence, members standing.
Mr J. 11. Downes was unanimously elected secretary, the President expressing his pleasure at having the assistance in office of a secretary who had already proved himself so capable. - The resignation of Mr H. Nixon as a member was accepted with regret.
The question of the installation of electric light on the green was then discussed. A communication was received from the Power Board which intimated that the minimum cost would be £SO, with a probability of (he figure being somewhat above this.
On the motion of Air Christie, it was decided that the secretary arrange for a final estimate for the work, (he equipment to be sufficient to illuminate the eight rinks, and also provide three points in the Club’s pavilion.
The question of finance was discussed. The President said he would like to see an effort made to supplement the Club’s funds, and provide for a reduction in the Bank overdraft. He put forward a suggestion for the holding of a series of social evenings for this purpose, or an increase in the annual sub-
scription. After consideration of the matter it was left in abeyance, the opinion being expressed that the most satisfactory way of supplementing the Club’s funds was by direct contribution. Alembers enjoying the privileges of the Club should he prepared to pay for same. It was pointed but that it would greatly assist the Club if members paid their subscriptions forthwith, instead of waiting until the season was well advanced..
II was decided to employ the caretaker on half time from how until opening day, subject to the discretion of the Green Committee. The opinion was expressed that the green showed prospects of being better this season than for some years past. The date of opening the green for play was tentatively set for October 6th.
On the motion of Mr Barr it was decided to hold a pairs tournament on the green on the first Wednesday after opening day. Messrs F. Riminer and J. McOoll were elected members of the Club.
